OUR BLUEPRINT FOR A BETTER AND BRIGHTER ENERGY INDUSTRY IN HONG KONG SAR

COLLECTIVELY MOVING THE NEEDLE IN ENVIRONMENT SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS

Recent changes and challenges are accelerating the focus on sustainability in Hong Kong SAR, especially in the energy industry.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, environmentally sustainable initiatives have increasingly been a focus in Hong Kong’s public and private sectors.

  • An ambitious target to become carbon neutral by 2050 was set in the Chief Executive’s 2020 policy.
  • In the private sector, more investors are putting pressure on large corporations to show actionable plans to weave sustainability into business models.
  • Candidates are showing an increasing preference for environmentally conscious companies.
  • How an environmentally sustainable brand reputation can help to shape attraction and retention strategies.
At Hays, we’ve also doubled down on efforts to commit to sustainability initiatives by reinventing the way we operate. Through a multifaceted strategy, we successfully achieved carbon neutral status on our journey towards Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions.

A key component of our strategy includes consciously partnering organisations that are equally committed to sustainability. One such organisation is Mitsui O.S K. Lines (MOL), a Japanese transport company that is working alongside CLP Power Hong Kong and The Hongkong Electric Company on supplying a clean alternative to coal power to Hong Kong.

“Bringing liquefied natural gas to Hong Kong and thus minimising the region’s reliance on coal stands out as a key marker in fulfilling [the Hong Kong government’s promise to reduce carbon emissions]. I feel privileged to be working on such an ambitious project that … stands as a shining example for other companies.” said Yasuyuki Ota, Director, Offshort Project Division (MOL).
