TOP FIVE CHALLENGES FACED BY HUMAN RESOURCES PROFESSIONALS IN HONG KONG SAR FOR AI IMPLEMENTATION IN RECRUITMENT
51% of Human Resources professionals most concerned about budget to implement AI recruitment tools

Hong Kong SAR, 27 June 2024 – More human resources professionals in Hong Kong perceive a need for human elements in AI recruitment processes according to Hays, the global leader in workforce solutions and specialist recruitment.

The survey conducted in late 2023 polled 1,833 HR and non-HR professionals across Asia to gather feedback about the use of AI in recruitment. The differences between both groups were then analysed to highlight concerns that arose.

When polled about the primary challenges faced when implementing AI, the top five factors that surfaced were as follows:

  • 51% of human resources respondents were concerned about budget constraints

  • 41% mentioned concerns about a lack of human touch and personalisation

  • 31% perceived issues with IT implementation

  • 25% cited concerns regarding training HR staff to effectively use AI tools

  • 25% were worried about data privacy and had security concerns

Unlike their HR-peers, non-HR professionals had ranked their top 5 key challenges for AI implementation in recruitment differently.

The survey showed that the widest difference between both groups were budgetary concerns to implement AI recruitment tools, with 65 percent more HR professionals expressing concern compared to non-HR professionals. Budget constraints were also the key challenge highlighted by HR professionals in Malaysia and Singapore.

“To date, only 23% of employers in Hong Kong SAR use AI to assist them in various stages of recruitment,” said Sue Wei, Managing Director at Hays Greater China. “Establishing the long-term cost savings and efficiencies of AI implementation will be crucial to the adoption of AI in recruitment.”

More HR professionals in Hong Kong SAR also expressed concern regarding data privacy and security and a lack of human touch and personalisation, as compared to their peers. “More resources will be required before wider adoption to address the added considerations of HR professionals. These include having security measures and transparent data handling practices relating to the AI usage. Leaders will need to understand and carefully consider this perceived need to retain human elements in the recruitment process to ensure all stakeholders are comfortable to utilise AI in the recruitment process,” said Sue.
